Teen Employment

Parent School Authorization Form: https://www.lni.wa.gov/dA/a99738b233/F700-002-000.pdf Students should be given this form by their employer.  Once the form has been completely filled out and signed by the Employer, Employee (student), and Parent/Guardian then the form can be emailed to Sandra Lordahl at slordahl@bethelsd.org for the school signature.

This form is for parents/legal guardians and school officials to indicate approval for a minor employee to work according to the terms listed by the employer.  During the summer months there is a Parent Authorization for summer work that does not require a school signature.  Please note, this is not a Minor Work Permit.  The Minor Work Permit is an endorsement that Employers (not the student) must have on their Master Business License for each work location with employees under age 18.

Minimum Wage Information:  https://lni.wa.gov/workers-rights/wages/minimum-wage/ The 2023 Minimum Wage in the state of Washington is $15.74 per hour. Washington employers must pay most employees at least the minimum wage for every hour worked. Workers who are 14 or 15 years old may be paid 85% of the adult minimum wage, or $13.38 per hour.

Job Searching Tips
BHS works with local businesses to support and advertise jobs for high school students. We receive flyers weekly for students to apply to local job positions. It is important that all students have an entry-level resume and cover letter template prepared that accurately highlights their skills to potential employers.
We offer the following services to help support students to find jobs, internships, etc. that will help them take a step toward their professional goals.

Resume Writing
Students will learn how to create an electronic resume that has been professionally edited by our staff to help students highlight their best assets. This resume assignment is a culminating project requirement and will be explained to students during advisory.
* Resume Assignment (Advisory Grade 10)
* Resume Assignment (Advisory Grade 11)

Cover Letter Development
Students should create a Job Application Cover Letter that has been edited by a staff member. This helps students demonstrate their ability to write persuasively and write a cover letter that can be used again-and-again with basic changes.

Job Interview Tips
Mrs. Edwards will schedule a mock interview for any student who wants to practice interviewing for a position. This has helped many students acquire positions and feel more at ease during initial interviews.
